First Visit To Cairo

Pastor Nina, Pastor Kim Meng and I recently visited Cairo, Egypt for the first time. We were hosted by Kasr El Dobara Evangelical Church (KDEC), a Charismatic Presbyterian megachurch pastored by Rev Dr Sameh Maurice. In fact, this is the biggest and only megachurch in all of the Middle East. Dr Maurice was a cardiac surgeon before he joined the church and over time, became its Senior Pastor.

KDEC has more than 7,000 members and ministries across the Middle Eastern countries touching literally hundreds of thousands of lives every week. I was invited by Dr Maurice to preach at his services and share with his pastoral team about our ministry in FCBC. At the first meeting, I discovered that the staff in charge of their cell ministry was trained by our cell training school in South Africa. He walked into the meeting with a “Zone Supervisor Training Manual”. Both FCBC and KDEC share similar core values – believing that evangelism and discipleship are key objectives of the church, and every believer should be trained to win others for Christ.

It was exciting to hear that God has been visiting many pre-believers with His signs and wonders. A staff who’s ministering among drug addicts shared how he came to know the Lord. He cried out, “Lord, if you’re real, show yourself to me!” Suddenly, his apartment was plunged into darkness and a brightly lit cross stood in front of him. He freaked out and ran out of his apartment. He returned later when the lights were back and plucked up enough courage to say, “Lord, if that was really You, please do it again.” Immediately, all the lights went out and the brightly lit cross appeared before him once again. He gave his life to Christ there and then, and today he’s sharing God’s love to the drug addicts.

A lady testified that she came to the Lord because Jesus appeared to her. For the next two years, every day as she read the Bible and prayed, Jesus would sit beside her and talk to her. Two years later in church, she discovered that is not the norm for every believer. Another lady gave her life to Christ because Jesus held her wrist and invited her to walk with Him. That touch of Christ left a permanent insignia of a cross engraved on her wrist.

God is moving in the Middle East powerfully. Pastor Nina and I look forward to working with KDEC in reaching many for the Lord in this place of revival. Thank you for praying for us!
