Jesus, My Valentine

This weekend, love is in the air as the world celebrates Valentine’s Day. To express love, couples give special gifts – flowers, chocolates, and even jewelry to their spouse or sweetheart. God did too. To prove His love for us, He gave us the supreme gift of Christ, who came to earth to die for us! “In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation (payment) for our sins.” (1 John 4:10, NASB)

Yes, dear family, Jesus is God’s Valentine to us. Has anyone else ever died for you? Has anyone else’s death ever brought you what the death of Jesus gained for you? Christ died willingly, enduring great humiliation and agony on the cross, to give us life. For us, death was an unavoidable destiny. But for Jesus, it was a choice. He became “obedient (to God) to death—even death on a cross!” (Philippians 2:8, NIV) Why? Because He loves us. Even though we are so undeserving, Christ paid the price and died in our place, out of a deep love for each of us. I recall these lyrics from a song called “No Greater Love” which goes like this, “No greater love than this, that You should lay down Your life, for someone such as me”.

This Valentine weekend, join me in thanking God for His love. Open up your hearts and accept Jesus, God’s Valentine gift to you. Receive this wonderful gift of eternal life that only Christ can give. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16, NIV)
