RHB Singapore Cup & Charity Football Tournament 2013

Wednesday, April 17, 2013

FCBC participated in an exciting football tournament organised by the Football Association of Singapore and supported by RHB Bank at The Float @ Marina Bay. For the 5-a-side tournament, a total of 16 teams made up of people from various walks of life participated. From Members of Parliament, professional S-League players and corporate employees to our very own FCBC staff and TOUCH volunteers; even the Silent Strikers, a team consisting purely of Deaf players, put on their soccer boots to battle it out atop an astro-turf floating soccer pitch – all in the name of charity!

Each team donated a minimum sum of $2,000 to participate in the tournament. All proceeds collected were donated to TOUCH Community Services.

“We are pleased to hold this year’s RHB Singapore Cup Draw in conjunction with a charity event for a good beneficiary TOUCH Community Services,” said S-League Chief Executive Officer Lim Chin.

Three of the teams that participated in the 5-a-side tournament were from FCBC, which comprised of last year’s TOUCH Community Services' charity futsal tournament reigning champions, our youth volunteers, as well as FCBC staff and other soccer enthusiasts.

Although all three teams did not take home the trophy this year, through the tournament, the players shared the pride of representing FCBC and each promises to return for next year’s challenge stronger and closer.

Ultimately, as aptly summarised by TOUCH Community Services General Manager Edmund Wong, prior to the tournament, “We hope that through this event, the players will forge new friendships with each other and everyone will have an enjoyable time playing football together.”
