Together with fellow pastors of LoveSingapore, I mourn the passing of our first Prime Minister, Mr Lee Kuan Yew. We convey our deepest condolences to Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and his family. We love you, we share your grief, and we are upholding all of you in our prayers.
We have lost not just a visionary leader, but the passionate founding father of Singapore who gave himself totally to transform an infant nation with very little chances of survival into a roaring lion. Together with his team, Mr Lee laid firm foundations for nation-building and governance - an achievement world leaders past and present continue to affirm and applaud.
Singapore’s younger generation reaps the fruits of Mr Lee Kuan Yew’s labour. I was touched by what my twenty-eight year old son said to me: “He took a stand and did what he believed was best for Singapore. I may not be aware of all that was done right or whatever else should have been done better. But this I know - I was born into a prosperous Singapore. I was born into a peaceful Singapore. I was born into a time where I did not have to fight for those, because they had already been won by pioneers who were willing to shed their own blood just to ensure that our flag kept its red.”
Mr Lee Kuan Yew was consumed with the passion to see Singapore excel beyond the norms of conventional thinking. He was truly a man ahead of his time, an inspiration to all of us. Unwavering and unshakeable in his vision for Singapore, he became the master architect of our society. The ideals and values on which he built this nation have become the fabric of Singapore that will bind us together for generations to come. Most outstanding of all is the excellent example he has set for us in Marriage and Family. He dearly loved his wife and was a good father to his three children. We give glory to God and we give honour to whom honour is due. Mr Lee Kuan Yew has made us proud to be Singaporeans, and to call this exceptional nation our Home. We may never see another like him.
