Prayer

We’ve been talking about prayer over the last two weekends, and I’ve been greatly encouraged by it. Prayer is perhaps one of the most fundamental things of our Christian walk, which many tend to neglect. That’s why God has put it upon our hearts to start preaching about prayer.

When it comes to prayer, I’m reminded of Edward McKendree Bounds, an American author, lawyer, and member of the Methodist Episcopal Church South clergy. He wrote 11 books in his lifetime, nine of which were about prayer. I’ve found many powerful truths that he taught through his writing, and I thought I’d share some of those which impacted me the most.

“I think Christians fail so often to get answers to their prayers because they do not wait long enough on God. They just drop down and say a few words, and then jump up and forget it and expect God to answer them.”

“I would rather have prayer without words than words without prayer.”

“Talking to men for God is a great thing, but talking to God for men is greater still.”

“The Church is looking for better methods; God is looking for better men. The Holy Ghost does not flow through methods, but through men. He does not come on machinery, but on men. He does not anoint plans, but men.”

“The story of every great Christian achievement is the history of answered prayer.”

I pray that what you’ve just read will cause you to reflect on your own journey, and inspire you to live a life of prayer. In this season of prayer, let’s believe that we will see God’s Kingdom on Earth as it is in Heaven.
