Onwards & Upwards

Wow, it’s been 40 years! Senior Pastor Lawrence and I have defied the odds and we will soon be celebrating our ruby wedding anniversary later this year. God has blessed us with 40 years together as husband and wife, giving each of us a best friend for life. Dear family, I want to share our happiness and thanksgiving with all of you.

We are very thankful that God led the spiritual leadership of FCBC to unanimously move in the G12 Vision, which allowed Senior Pastor Lawrence and I to work in partnership since 2002. Prior to that, our individual careers pulled us apart. Although we were a family and lived together, we led largely separate lives. But these past 15 years of serving FCBC has certainly brought us closer together.

Our anniversary falls on the weekend of Gateway Theatre’s Opening Festival, and following that, we start rehearsals for Gateway Entertainment’s show of the year, Nutcracker. This means we won’t be able to properly mark our momentous 40th wedding anniversary. But that’s not stopping us! We’ve decided to have two celebrations instead – kicking off next Monday with a short getaway by the beautiful Danube River in Budapest, Hungary. Followed by a week in Alaska this October chasing the Northern Lights to wrap up our 40 years of marital life together.

I was reminded that the number ‘40’ appears frequently throughout the Bible, usually representing significant periods of time – be it “40 days” or “40 years”. As for Senior Pastor Lawrence and I, these past 40 years have been nothing short of spectacular. I rejoice and thank God that we are still a dynamic duo – two to laugh, two to dance, and two who still recall romance. In fact, sometimes I feel like we’re newly married! I look forward to many more wonderful years ahead with my dear husband, Lawrence. Onwards and upwards we go!

“no longer two, but one” – Matthew 19:6
