How It Began… Ten years ago, Rev Chan came to Singapore and was attracted to Senior Pastor Lawrence Khong's vision of reaching the whole of Singapore with the gospel of Christ. Rev Chan recalled telling Rev Khong that Singapore is a multi-racial, multi-lingual society. However, at that time, Faith Community Baptist Church only had services conducted in the English language.

Hence, starting from scratch, Rev Chan built up the Chinese Ministry. From 120 persons in 1993, today it runs two full-fledged services of about 1,900. | The Vision When Rev Chan asked the Lord for a vision for his Chinese Ministry, God said that he should not only view himself as a Chinese Ministry pastor, but he should also develop other characteristics in the ministry that is common to all. From there, God gave him the MRT vision.

The Chinese Ministry is to encompass all three functions. With FCBC going G12, Rev Chan feels that discipling is the way to go.
"I want to do away with the thought that the Chinese church, like most Chinese churches in Singapore, are mostly meant for the elderly," said Rev Chan Hon Shek.
He stresses the importance of reaching out to the next generation, and he wants to give the Chinese Ministry a young, vibrant image besides the closeness and family ties found ever so often in the Chinese community.
