Help for caregivers goes online
- Sunday Times
WORKING people who care for relatives with special needs or disabling medical conditions can now plug into a network of support groups for help.
They can find information on coping and caring skills, links to service providers and equipment aids at www.caregivers.org.sg
National Council of Social Service president Robert Loh launched the site yesterday, which was also Caregivers' Appreciation Day.He said: "Through this website,
caregivers will realise there are people in the same situation
as they are, and it will connect caregivers to people with
whom they can share experiences and get advice."
He also announced plans for a Caregivers Centre, which will
be managed by Touch Community Services, and a help line for
caregivers.
The Ministry of Community Development and Sports (MCDS) is
working with several day care centres to extend their operating
hours and provide weekend care for senior citizens.
MCDS has also introduced a set of home-care manuals for families
looking after elderly people at home.
