Reflections by Zandy Tan

Next, we rushed out of the Keisei rail in one accord. At around 11.30pm after we called it a day, we encountered M7.4 earthquake. At first, I thought it was the sound of a train, but soon realised it that there was no station nearby. The building started to shake violently and some of us had to get down on our knees to reach the doorway. Thank God all of us made it out of the building. I was surprised that no one had broken down but instead, the team was praising the Lord. Our God is amazing. He knew that we would not be able to minister to His people without first experiencing it. What I experienced was just a small portion of what the people in Japan had been going through for a life time. My heart ached when I thought of the elderly and the children that were traumatised by the M9.0 quake.

At Nakai Community Centre, beside food distribution, we also had the opportunity to pray for the people at the shelter. While some of the members were concerned for about not having an interpreter, I remembered Pastor Catherine teaching the Timor team about trusting the Holy Spirit who will speak to the person we prayed for in their language. So by faith and with confidence, I laid hand on this 85 years old lady. The moment I started praying, she broke down. Wow, the Holy Spirit had ministered to her.

I had a good time setting up the distribution point and distributing the food to the community at Mr Abe’s printing shop. I had fun promoting my apples and vegetables alongside with Mr Abe’s family. Although I could not speak Japanese, I was able to make small chat with Mr Abe and family. We would laugh at the funny hand signs while trying to communicate. Language was no longer a barrier when we come together to serve with ONE HEART and ONE LOVE. It was wonderful to attend the service at Kesennuma First Bible Baptist Church held at Mr Abe’s shop. The presence of the Lord was there and I was ministered to.
