ESM Goh Chok Tong officiates at the Christmas light-up switch-on ceremony

Singapore, 30 November 2012 – For the first time ever, Marine Parade Stakeholders are coming together to collaborate on a heartland Christmas light-up celebration from 30 November 2012 to 6 January 2013. Entitled “Christmas ‘Round The Corner”, the event will see the streets of Marine Parade decked out in regal Christmas decorations, including themed set pieces and a 30-foot Christmas tree.

Main organiser and sponsor, Faith Community Baptist Church (FCBC), aims to create a celebratory Christmas atmosphere and present an iconic event in Marine Parade for all to enjoy. “Faith Community Baptist Church is a community church and this is an excellent opportunity for us to connect and share the spirit of Christmas with the Marine Parade residents and community. We are staging this event with the Marine Parade Merchants’ Association to bring families and communities together through an iconic Christmas light-up celebration. This is our way of giving back to the community,” said Reverend Lawrence Khong, Senior Pastor of FCBC.

The event is also co-organised by Marine Parade Merchants’ Association (MPMA) who has rallied its members to provide great Christmas deals and discounts in Marine Parade Central during this festive season. Other stakeholders supporting the celebrations are the Citizens' Consultative Committee (CCC), Marine Parade Town Council and Housing Development Board who facilitated permits and aided in the marketing outreach to the grassroots and residents in the Marine Parade GRC.

Parkway Parade has also come in to support this inaugural festive event. As part of the Marine Parade community, Parkway Parade compliments the efforts of FCBC and MPMA to profile Marine Parade as a focal point of this year’s Christmas celebrations.

This is the first time these stakeholders are coming together to deliver such large-scale Christmas celebrations, never seen before in Marine Parade.

A launch ceremony will be held on the 30 November 2012 at 7.30pm in Marine Parade Central (in front of FCBC). Mr Goh Chok Tong, Emeritus Senior Minister and Grassroots Adviser for Marine Parade GRC, will be the guest-of-honour to officiate this event. A special guided tour will also be conducted for the VIPs to view the Christmas focal points.

Speaking about this event, ESM Goh Chok Tong said, “It heartens me to see the different stakeholders come together to bring the Christmas atmosphere to Marine Parade. This celebration will not only help inject vibrancy into the offerings of Marine Parade Central but also bring families and communities together to forge closer familial ties.”

Adding to the festive atmosphere is a Christmas bazaar, taking place from the 19-26 December 2012. You can expect carnival game booths, Christmas crafts as well as many other festive offerings.
